Why does nobody talk about the noise from those big air compressors?

I was at my buddy's place in Tempe and his 60-gallon unit was so loud we had to stop talking. Everyone says you need the biggest one you can get, but I think a smaller, quiet compressor is better for a home garage. Has anyone found a good quiet model that still has enough power for impact tools?

Ever heard of a California Air Tools model? My neighbor has one and you can actually hold a conversation next to it.
