Just realized I had to pick between a full chemical strip or a light sand for a 1920s oak dresser. Went with the strip. Took three days but the grain is perfect.

Good call on the strip. That old oak can hide some amazing grain under all that gunk. Sanding would have just ground the old finish into it.

Oh man, @evan151, you are so right. I tried sanding an old table once and just made a huge, gummy mess. Stripping it first lets you see what you're actually working with. That oak grain can really pop when it's clean.
