I was sure a co-working space was a waste of money until I visited The Hive in Portland

I went there last Thursday to meet a friend and saw something I didn't expect. Every single person at a table had a notebook open next to their laptop, writing down their tasks for the day by hand. It wasn't about the fancy coffee or fast internet. It was about forcing focus in a room full of other people doing the same. I always thought those places were just for show, but now I get the structure. Has anyone else found a simple trick like that to beat working from home distractions?

My friend at The Hive uses a physical timer for her 25 minute work blocks, which seems to lock in that focus even more.

@lisa_murray that timer trick is genius, I started using my old kitchen timer and it's way harder to ignore than a phone buzz.

Honestly that's some next level commitment to the bit. I can barely keep my phone timer going without getting distracted by a notification, let alone manage a whole separate physical device. Bet she also has a special pen for her to-do list.
