My kid saw a casting video online and now won't stop asking about my burns

So my youngest found some industrial videos on his tablet, the kind with molten metal pouring, and he zoomed in on my arms later that night. He pointed at all the old scars and small burns I've got, and his face just fell. I had to sit him down and explain how every mark has a story, like the one from a splash when a mold wasn't set right or the time my glove got a tiny tear. It was rough seeing him worry, but we talked about all the safety gear and checks we do now that we didn't always have back in the day. My wife jumped in too, saying how we balance the risky job with being careful at home, which helped a bit. Honestly, it opened up a whole chat about why I do this work and the pride in making things, not just the dangers. How do you folks handle your family's questions or worries about the physical side of the job? Mine's still a bit shook, lol.

Kids notice everything, don't they... my daughter found a scar on my shoulder from a piece of flying debris years back and had the same quiet look. Ended up telling her it was like a bad stamp from work, but that I learned to stand clearer of the line after. Sometimes they just need to hear the boring safety talk to feel better, even if we think it's obvious. Makes them part of the story in a way.

My youngest asked about a burn mark on my arm last month. Told him it was from grabbing a pan wrong when I was his age, showed him how I hold handles now. They really do file away those little lessons when you make it practical.

Notice how kids latch onto these small marks like @verab28 said. Honestly, it shows they're trying to make sense of the world by connecting our past to their present. Turning a scar into a safety lesson just makes everything feel more solid for them.
