Local inspectors are suddenly strict on foundry smoke output

Yeah, @caseyh97 is spot on about opacity being the real worry. These days, inspectors carry handheld monitors that give exact readings, so even light smoke can fail if it's dense with particles. You might need to test your own output before they show up.

Those handheld monitors can give junk readings sometimes. Ours flagged a false high during morning fog. The lab sample came back clean but we still got written up. Maybe they're just being overly cautious with the new gear.

Check if your warning was about visible smoke or particulate readings. Our issue last year was opacity, not just the color. They measured it with a tool, not just looking. Had to upgrade filters even though the smoke looked light gray.
