Scored a whole set of dining chairs from a curb in my own neighborhood
I was walking my dog on Thursday evening and saw four wooden chairs stacked neatly by the trash cans on Elm Street. They were solid oak, just a bit dusty, with no real damage. I carried them home one by one, which took about twenty minutes. A quick wipe down and a light sanding on one rough spot made them look brand new. My old folding chairs are finally gone. Has anyone else found good furniture just a few houses down from their own?

That's the best kind of find. Makes you wonder what else gets tossed from houses you walk past every single day.

I read a book about that once, @palmer.henry.

Oh man, I gotta disagree there. I think it depends on the kind of stuff they're tossing. I've seen houses where people throw out perfectly good furniture and tools that just need a little cleanup, and that kills me. But most of the time, what gets thrown away is broken or actually junk, you know? Like, old gas cans with rust holes or ripped up clothes that nobody would want. It looks exciting from the outside but when you dig through it, it's usually just trash that should have gone to the dump years ago. I think the real treasures are the stuff people keep, not the stuff they're trying to get rid of.
