I was walking around the old neighborhood in Tacoma and saw a perfectly good oak desk just sitting out with the trash.

Hold up, it was probably trashed for a reason. Solid wood is heavy and a total pain to move. Maybe it was water damaged or had a ton of deep scratches. Or it could have been infested with bugs, you never know. Sometimes free stuff comes with a hidden cost that makes it not worth the hassle.

No way, an oak desk? That's the kind of solid wood furniture people pay hundreds for. My particle board desk from the big box store wobbles if I look at it wrong. Someone just left a tank like that on the curb? That's insane.
