Found a perfect leather couch in Seattle last month, but it was crawling with bed bugs.
The exterminator said the whole building had to be treated, costing over $800. How do you guys check for pests before you haul something home?

That "whole building had to be treated" part is the real nightmare. I check seams and crevices with a flashlight, but I also look for the shed skins and tiny white eggs. They're easier to spot than the bugs themselves. I once passed on a dresser because I saw those little shells tucked in a corner. What's the weirdest place you've found signs of pests?
