Stumbled upon a progressive rock tape from 1978 in my uncle's basement

I was sorting through some old boxes and found a cassette by a band called Silver Lining. Their album 'Distant Shores' has this amazing mix of guitar and synth that I've never heard before. It made me realize how much music from that era gets buried under today's hits. I'd love to hear if anyone else has found hidden treasures like this and what I should listen to next.

That mix of guitar and synth on 'Distant Shores' is classic prog. You should hunt down 'Moonmadness' by Camel, it has the same vibe. Also try 'The Geese & the Ghost' by Anthony Phillips for more hidden gems from that time. Most of the good stuff never made it to mainstream radio.

Did the cassette player eat the tape or was it still in good shape? Uncovering lost music like that is the best part of digging through old stuff. Silver Lining sounds awesome, and that era had so many bands doing crazy things with sound. You might dig 'Fish Rising' by Steve Hillage, it's got that same spaced-out vibe. It's a shame how much great music just fades away, but that makes finding it even sweeter.

The tape was fine, just dusty. It’s cool to find old music, but sometimes the hype gets a bit much. Like @thead44 mentioning all these deep cuts, it’s just music from the 70s, not some lost holy grail. People act like finding a weird prog album is a life changing event. It’s fun, but let’s keep it in check.
