Found a copy of 'The Great Escape' by Blur in a bin of old Christmas records...

People keep calling it a Britpop album, but it's really this weird art rock thing with synths and samples... I only know because my uncle played it for me in '99 and said it was 'ahead of its time'. Anyone else have an album everyone gets wrong?

Totally get that. My dad used to play "Kid A" by Radiohead and people called it just a rock album. It's mostly weird electronic sounds and no real guitars on half the tracks. He had the same "ahead of its time" line, and honestly, he was right.

Man that Kid A example is perfect. My uncle played me that album when I was a kid and I just did not get it at all, thought it was just noise. Took me years to come back to it and realize how crazy it was for a rock band to make that in 2000. It's the same with a lot of stuff, people need time to catch up. Your dad sounds like he knew what was up.
