Changed my mind about using big finance forums after talking to my neighbor

I was telling my neighbor, a retired teacher, how I always used the huge, popular investing forums for advice. He said he switched to a small forum for teachers' retirement planning last year and got way better help because everyone there gets his exact situation. That hit different because I realized the big forums are often just noise, while a focused group can give real, useful answers. I spent maybe 10 hours last week checking out a smaller forum for people with side businesses, and the tips were way more specific to my freelance income. It made me stop just going for the biggest site with the most users. Has anyone else found a small, niche finance forum that actually helped them more?

My local hardware store has a bulletin board for old house plumbing questions. The answers there saved me three service calls last year. Same idea, just less yelling about copper pipes.

My grandpa kept a coffee can full of random plumbing fittings for emergencies. He fixed more leaks with that can than any store-bought kit. Sometimes the old ways just work better.
