The argument over natural dyes vs synthetics hit me hard last week
I spent a whole week dyeing fabrics with avocado pits and turmeric, got these soft earthy tones but nothing lasted through a single wash. Then I used a $6 bottle of Rit dye and got vibrant colors that held up after 5 washes. So which is better for the planet if my natural batch ends up in the trash after one wear? Do you prioritize longevity or sustainability in your projects?

oh yeah @richardfox avocado pits are a whole rabbit hole lol, you can get pinks and peachy tones but theyre super finicky. ive tried it a few times and honestly the color payoff is so weak you'd need like 50 pits for a single tshirt, then it fades to nothing. the rit dye being so cheap and consistent makes the whole "which is greener" thing way more complicated than people act, cause if your natural stuff bleeds out after one wash and you toss the garment you just made more waste than the synthetic dye did.
