I finally paid for a full grocery delivery service last month and it's making me think about tipping.
It was about $130 for the food plus a $15 delivery fee and a $5 service charge. The driver brought it right to my door in the rain. I gave him a $10 cash tip, which felt right at the time. But then I saw the app later and it had a pre-set tip option of 20% already added, which I missed. So the guy got double tipped by accident. Part of me thinks that's fine, he did a good job. Another part wonders if the company is putting the ethical load on me by hiding fees and making me feel bad. My mom says you should always tip the person, not the app. But it's getting hard to track. Has anyone else had a delivery where the tipping felt confusing?

Feel your pain, that's a classic app scam. They bury the fees hoping you'll tip twice. The driver earned your cash tip, the company just got greedy. I'd contact support and ask them to remove their auto-tip since you paid cash.
