Appreciation post: I returned a wallet I found in a grocery cart
Found a wallet stuffed with cash and cards in a cart at the Food Mart on Elm. Turned it in at the service desk. The owner called me later, said he was about to cancel his trip because his ID was in there. Felt good, but also weirdly guilty for even thinking about keeping it for a second. Anyone else get that split-second moral tug of war?

Look at it this way, that cash was just sitting there with no name on it. The universe basically handed you a free tank of gas or a nice dinner out. The guy probably has insurance for his cards, and the DMV will give him a new ID for like twenty bucks. Turning it in just means it goes to some underpaid store manager who might not even try that hard to find the owner. You did the "right" thing, but let's be real, you also passed up free money for no real reward.

See it as lost property, not free money. That cash could be for someone's rent or meds. Doing the right thing is its own reward, even if it doesn't come with a prize.
