Hot take: I used to double-cleanse with the same oil cleanser morning and night, but after a breakout last fall I switched to a micellar water in the AM and my skin actually calmed down.

Anyone else found that cutting back on product frequency helped more than adding extra steps, or is it just me?

Yeah for sure. I stopped washing my face in the morning altogether and just splash water on it. My skin got way less irritated and oily during the day.

Wait you just splash water on your face? No cleanser at all? That seems wild to me. I feel like my face would still be greasy by noon if I did that. But hey if it works for you maybe I'm overcomplicating things with my whole routine. I've been using this expensive foaming wash twice a day and my face still gets shiny by lunch.

Oh man, you just described my exact journey. I was doing the double cleanse religiously morning and night with this milky cleanser and my face was so red and angry by the time winter hit. I finally just started using cool water in the morning and a gentle cleanser at night and it was like my skin finally took a deep breath. The daytime oiliness actually went down too, which made no sense to me at first but my derm said I was stripping my barrier and it was overcompensating. Less is more has been my whole vibe ever since, especially for my combo skin.
