Why does nobody talk about flux residue causing intermittent failures in microsoldering?

A seasoned repair tech told me my cold joint diagnosis was wrong and it was actually leftover flux eating through the board over 6 months, and now I scrub every single repair with IPA like my life depends on it, has anyone else had a board fail weeks later from something you thought was clean?

You ever had a board that worked perfect for two weeks then just stopped? I had a laptop that would randomly shut down when you moved it a certain way. Chased that thing for weeks. Reseated everything, checked caps, swapped ICs. Turned out it was a tiny hair of leftover solder wick fiber underneath a BGA. Not flux, but same idea. Stuff you think is gone can totally come back to mess with you later.
