Warning: I thought fixing old electronics was pointless until last month
I used to think repairing old gear was just for hobbyists with too much time. Then I saw how many tablets and consoles get dumped in landfills every day. A local recycling center showed me the toxic stuff leaking from broken batteries and screens. Now I salvage every part I can, like good ICs from dead motherboards. It reduces e-waste and gives customers a cheaper fix. My shop even started a take-back program for old devices. We can all make a difference by keeping gadgets out of the trash.

Salvaging every part - what's the most valuable find?

Read about a salvage crew pulling up gold bars from a 19th century shipwreck off the coast. That has to be one of the most valuable single finds, @susanh46. They recovered hundreds of them, each one worth a lot just for the gold, not even counting the history. It really shows how patience and looking in the right place can pay off big time.

My salvage finds are more like @susanh46's gold bars if they were melted down into a single sad capacitor.
