Watched a guy in a Denver high-rise get zapped because he skipped his meter check

He was rushing to get a panel live and didn't verify the main was dead with his own meter. Saw the flash from across the room. Now I physically touch my meter to the lugs before I trust any lockout. Anyone else have a rule they won't break after seeing something go wrong?

That's one way to get a free tan, I guess. My rule is to always assume everything is live until my meter proves me wrong.

But what if you're in a rush and that extra step gets skipped?

But what if your meter is wrong or you forget to check? I've seen people get shocked because they trusted old testers. I double check by testing a known live wire first, then the unknown one.
