Rant: That overpriced tourist trap in New Orleans I fell for

I stopped at Cafe Du Monde last week and spent $12 on beignets and coffee, expecting some life changing pastry. Instead I got three powdery donut holes and a cup of chicory that tasted like dirt water. Why does everyone act like this place is a must visit when the best food in the city is a block away for half the price?

Can't believe you paid $12 for powdered donut holes that's criminal.

@lisa_jones21 you're right, $12 is insane for that. Cafe du Monde is mostly just a tourist trap that charges for the name, not the food. I grabbed a shrimp po-boy from a place two blocks over for $8 and it was the real deal. The beignets are just fried dough with sugar, nothing special. New Orleans has way better food for way less if you just walk past the line.
