I had to pick between a fast tape job and a clean one on a big ceiling fix
Last week in a Denver condo, I had a big ceiling patch that needed a full coat of mud. The owner wanted it done fast so they could paint the next day. I had to choose between slapping on a thick coat to get it done quick, or doing two thin coats the right way. I went with the two thin coats, even though it meant coming back the next morning to sand. It took longer, but when I sanded it, the seam was smooth as glass. No ridges, no lines, just perfect. If I had done it thick, it would have shrunk and cracked for sure. It's a pain to lose that time, but a bad finish is worse. Has anyone else had a client push for speed on a repair and how do you handle it?

Tell them fast, cheap, or good, pick two.

Good call on the two thin coats, that's the only way it holds up. @angela899 is right about picking two, but sometimes clients think they can get all three. You have to be the one to tell them no. A rushed thick coat always fails, and then you're going back for free to fix their crack. Losing a little time up front saves a huge headache later.
