Dropped $800 on a new suction hose strainer basket and it saved my pump from a total wreck
We were working a channel near Mobile and the old basket was letting too much debris through. The new one caught a massive chunk of waterlogged timber that would have absolutely jammed the impeller. Cost about $800 from a marine supply shop, but that's nothing compared to a pump rebuild. What's the best strainer setup you all run for heavy vegetation areas?

Glad that new basket worked out. I mean, that's the whole game right there, catching the big stuff before it gets in. We run a double basket setup on our dredge, a coarse outer one for logs and then a finer mesh inside for the leafy junk. Still have to stop and clear it every few hours in the thick stuff, but it beats tearing down a pump on the bank. Idk, maybe it's overkill but we haven't blown an impeller in two seasons.

Two baskets sounds like a lot of downtime for cleaning. We just use a single heavy-duty screen and only check it at lunch. Lost maybe one pump in five years that way.
