Friend told me my solar panel angle was totally off and I ignored him for months

Built a 15 watt phone charger last spring and aimed my panel flat on the roof, thinking sun hits everything the same. My buddy who does off-grid cabins said I was losing half my power and showed me his built in tilt stand that tracks the sun angle. Now I'm curious how many of you adjust your panels seasonally or just leave them flat because it's easier?

How much power were you actually getting versus what the panel is rated for? I'm curious what those real world numbers looked like because I've always wondered if the difference is as big as people claim or if it's more of a theoretical thing. I see people online talking about seasonal tilting like it's life changing but I just leave mine flat on my RV roof cause I'm too lazy to climb up there twice a year lol. Does your buddy have a specific angle calculator he uses or does he just eyeball it based on the season?

Yeah, I tilt mine every season or so, makes a huge difference in winter.
