My shed shelf finally stopped sagging after I switched to 2x4s

Used to just throw particle board on some brackets for my shed shelves in Portland. Every 6 months they'd sag and stuff would slide off. Last month I got fed up and ripped it all out, put in actual 2x4 ledger strips screwed into the studs. Then laid 3/4 plywood across em. Thing feels like I could park a car on it now. Anybody else do the cheap shelf route and regret it for years before fixing it?

Dude I did the exact same thing with my shed in Beaverton. Spent like 3 years replacing warped particle board every spring before I finally learned my lesson. Switched to 2x4s and 3/4 plywood last summer and it's night and day. My wife can stack all her heavy pots on there now without me worrying. Honestly wish I had just done it right the first time instead of being cheap.

Ha, you know I used to be one of those "oh just get the cheap stuff it'll hold" guys for years. But seeing how much hassle you saved by just doing it right once actually makes a ton of sense. I guess sometimes being stubborn about spending a few extra bucks just costs you more time and frustration in the long run.
