I spent 6 months using the wrong drill bit for concrete anchors

Was putting up a shelving unit in my garage and couldn't figure out why the holes kept coming out too loose. My neighbor walked over and pointed out I was using a wood spade bit instead of a masonry bit and I felt like an idiot. Has anyone else gone that long doing something the dumb way without realizing it?

You ever have one of those moments where you just stare at your own work and wonder how you missed the obvious? I did the same thing @willow732 - spent months trying to hammer finish nails into hardwood floors with a regular hammer before someone showed me a mallet and punch set. Turns out the right tool makes all the difference, but nobody tells you that stuff until you're already frustrated.

Ngl this is exactly how most people learn DIY stuff. You bang your head against a wall for half a year before someone casually drops the knowledge that changes everything. Its like when I spent a whole year using my oven mitts to open jars before someone told me to just tap the lid on the counter. The thing is nobody teaches this stuff in any kind of real way. You just muddle through until you figure it out or someone takes pity on you. Your neighbor probably got a good laugh at first but thats how the whole skill sharing thing works in real life.
