I used to always reinstall Windows for driver issues, now I just check the event log first. When did you change your approach?

Driver issues aren't usually that big of a deal unless you're on some super obscure hardware. People act like a single error message means the world is ending. Event log is fine for finding out what broke but half the time it points at some random Windows update that went wrong. A quick rollback or driver reinstall from safe mode fixes most things without wiping everything clean. Reinstalling the whole OS for a driver problem is like burning your house down because a light bulb burned out. In what world did that ever make sense as a first step?

Had a client last week where the event log just kept saying "kernel-power 41" over and over, and it turned out to be a bad PSU cable not the OS or drivers at all, so yeah @evanfox is right that people jump way too fast.

Evan's spot on but @the_anna's PSU story is a good reminder that event log errors are just clues, not the final diagnosis. People treat it like the holy grail when it's really just a starting point.
