Shoutout to the guy at Home Depot who told me to check the stud finder batteries first

I was about to return a brand new stud finder because it kept giving false readings. He just smiled and said "try fresh batteries before you blame the tool." Saved me a trip and $35. Has anyone else had a simple fix like that save a whole project?

Honestly that's solid advice. I had a similar thing with a laser level a couple years back, was about to chuck it in the trash because the line was all wobbly and faint. Guy at the counter said "when's the last time you cleaned the lens?" I felt like an idiot but a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth fixed it right up. Little stuff like that saves you a headache every time.

Cleaning the lens wouldn't have helped if you just needed to buy a new battery...
