My attempt to fix a wobbly ceiling fan with a zip tie went about as well as you'd think
I saw a video where a guy used a zip tie to tighten a loose fan blade bracket, so I tried it on my own fan in the living room. When I turned it on, the zip tie snapped after about 30 seconds and shot across the room like a tiny plastic bullet, hitting my cat's water bowl. Has anyone else had a quick fix idea backfire in a really loud and messy way?

Did it at least scare the cat?

The real danger is when those zip ties hit something expensive. My buddy tried the same trick on a bathroom exhaust fan. The plastic shard flew up and cracked the light cover's diffuser, which cost way more than a proper bracket. It's always the secondary damage that gets you, like your cat's bowl getting taken out.
