Decided to skip the stud finder and just wing it with drywall anchors
Hanging shelves in my living room, I had two choices: drive 10 minutes to grab a stud finder from the hardware store on Elm Street, or trust my luck with those cheap plastic anchors from the dollar bin. Picked the anchors because I'm impatient. Shelves came down at 2 AM with a crash that woke up my whole building, tore four holes in the drywall. Anyone else made that dumb gamble and had it blow up on them?

Man, that's rough! I used to be the worst about skipping the stud finder... always figured I could feel my way to a stud or just trust those anchors. But after a shelf fell down and shattered a mug my grandma gave me, I completely changed my tune. Those little plastic anchors are basically a scam if you ask me. Now I won't even mount a towel rack without checking twice with the finder. Sorry about your wall though, that's a pain to patch up.

Three times now I've done the same damn thing and every time it ends with holes in the wall and me cursing at 3 AM. Those cheap anchors are the devil's work, they just spin and spin til you got nothing left. Hope you got some extra spackle handy.
