I finally stopped chasing 400V filter caps, here's what gave it away

For 6 years I was convinced every build needed big voltage headroom, so I kept ordering 500V caps for my 6V6 amps. Then one Saturday I swapped in a set of 450V caps from a parts bin and the amp actually sounded livelier, less stiff in the top end. I dug into the datasheets and realized my B+ never topped 420V, so I was leaving tone on the table with overkill parts the whole time. Anyone else run higher voltage ratings than the circuit calls for just because it feels safer? What made you switch to matching the real load?

Ever notice how cap size changes the whole layout and wire routing too?
