The week my email open rate dropped 40 percent and I had no clue why
Last Tuesday I noticed my weekly newsletter went from 22 percent open rate to just 13 percent. Turned out my subject line got caught in Gmail's spam filters because I used a word like 'free' too many times. Has anyone else had a small word choice mess up their whole campaign?

I mean, I get why people check spam scores but honestly I think all that stuff gets overblown. If your content is good and people actually want your emails, one word choice isn't gonna tank everything.

That thing about the word 'free' getting flagged is so real but also so frustrating. I've had the same thing happen where I used "urgent" in a subject line and it tanked my open rate by like 15 percent overnight. Did you check your spam score with a tool before sending, or did you only notice after the drop? I'm curious if you had any other trigger words in there besides 'free' that could have piled on.
