My A/B test backfired so badly my boss thought I lost it
I ran a split test on our landing page headline last month, switching one version to a pun about data entry. Conversion dropped 40% and my manager asked if I was joking when I showed her the numbers. Has anyone else had a creative idea blow up in their face this badly?

Conversion dropped 40%" yeah that stings. I did something similar with a CTA button once, swapped "Get Started" for "Let's Roll" thinking it was clever. Boss pulled me aside like I was pranking the whole company. The worst part is when you have to sit there and explain why a pun seemed like a good idea at 2pm on a Tuesday. My advice, keep the creative stuff for ad copy or social posts where people expect personality. For the main landing page, stick with boring and predictable. Test the fun stuff on a low traffic page first, not the money maker.
