Looking back, I was totally wrong about long-form blog posts for SEO
Back in maybe 2018, I thought writing a 2000 word post was a waste of time. My view was that people just wanted quick answers, so I kept everything short and to the point. I saw other sites in my niche, like local service areas, ranking with these huge guides and thought it was just fluff. What changed my mind was a post I wrote about 'tree root systems and your foundation' that I fleshed out to about 1800 words. It wasn't an instant hit, but after about six months, it became my top source of organic traffic and brought in a steady stream of leads. The data showed people were actually reading it all the way through and it ranked for dozens of related questions I never even targeted. It convinced me that depth and real help matter more than I gave credit for. Has anyone else had a tactic they dismissed that later became a core part of their strategy?

What took you so long? I was deep into long form before it was cool.

Honestly I got stuck reading one of those old forum threads that goes on for pages... you know how it is.
