Rant: Bigger art shows are becoming a popularity contest, not a skill showcase
I entered three pieces at the Regional Arts Center expo in June and watched the judges walk past a technically flawless oil painting to award the top prize to a neon sign piece that just said 'SOLD'. Has anyone else felt like the juried shows are ignoring craft in favor of shock value lately?

...and honestly, I think the bigger issue might be that these shows reward "conversation starters" more than actual skill. The whole thing's shifted toward what gets people talking on social media, not what holds up on a wall. Judges are probably just as tired of it as we are, they're just stuck playing the same game.
