That 2003 Cummins I pulled apart last month cleaned up like a new engine
The sludge was caked over every piston from 140k miles of cheap oil changes, but after a hot tank and fresh rings it fired up quieter than my buddy's 2020 rebuild, has anyone else seen that kind of turnaround with the old 5.9s?

You really think it's quieter than a 2020 rebuild though? I've torn down a few 5.9s and yeah they clean up nice, but matching a fresh common rail for smoothness seems like a stretch. Maybe your buddy's rebuild just wasn't done right.
