Rant: Overheard a guy at the parts counter say DEF is just a cash grab
He was telling the clerk that all the emissions stuff, especially the diesel exhaust fluid, is just a way for companies to make more money off us. But I've seen the before and after numbers on a DPF delete (which I don't do, by the way) and the soot reduction is real. So what's the deal, is it a needed fix or just a hassle?

Buddy of mine runs a fleet. His trucks without DEF systems are always in the shop for emissions related junk. The ones with it just run.

Yeah, it's a relief when something actually works like it's supposed to.

Seen the same thing with our older equipment. Fighting those constant emissions faults on pre-DEF trucks got expensive and annoying. Finally bit the bullet and phased them out. The newer stuff with DEF just needs the tank filled and they stay out of the shop. It's a pain but way less downtime.
