Had a wake-up call at a salvage yard in Phoenix last week watching a 7.3 Powerstroke get yanked out in 20 minutes flat
It hit me that I've been overthinking my shop setup when that guy just used a chain and a rented cherry picker with no fancy tools, and I'm wondering how many of you are running bare bones rigs too?

Getting by just fine" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, @the_rowan, but is it really that serious to compare a two-week loaner to actually building out a shop? Sounds like you already had the tools and just needed a temporary fix, not a full breakdown.

Man, that's exactly the kind of thing that makes you stop and rethink everything. I had the same wake up call a few years back when my fancy compressor died and I just borrowed a buddy's old pancake one for two weeks. It was slow as hell but it still got the job done for basic air tools and topping off tires. These days I'm mostly running a beat-up Harbor Freight engine hoist and a mix of hand me down wrenches and I get by just fine.
