Warning: that $25 fan hub saved my build but the RGB software almost ruined it
So last week I finally put together my new rig in a Fractal North case and I was feeling pretty good about the cable management until I realized I had eight fans and only three headers on the board. I grabbed a cheap $25 fan hub off Amazon, the kind with a little remote and a SATA power plug, and honestly it was a lifesaver because I could tuck all the extra cables behind the PSU shroud. My temps dropped like 6 degrees on the CPU just from having the top exhaust actually spinning at full speed instead of daisy chained off one header. But here is the burn part, the hub came with this awful software that kept fighting my motherboard's fan curve and one time it spun everything to 100 percent for no reason at 2 in the morning, sounded like a jet. I ended up just unplugging the USB header and letting the remote control it manually, which is fine but now I have a remote taped to the side of my desk. For $25 I would still buy it again but I wish someone had warned me about the software mess. Has anyone found a fan hub that plays nice with motherboard curves without needing its own app?
