Unpopular opinion: Checking my email headers for mismatches caught a clever phishing try.

Seeing the real sender address didn't match the display name tipped me off right away.

Ever tried hovering over the sender name to see the real address? That's saved me a few times too.

Hovering over the sender name is such a weak move, @nathanbennett. It only works if you're already suspicious and looking for clues. Most people just glance at the sender name they recognize and click. The real problem is that these emails look exactly like the real thing. By the time you're hovering, you could already be tricked. We need better spam filters that stop this stuff before it even hits the inbox, not more steps for regular people to remember. Relying on everyone to be a detective is a failed plan.

My bank's real address always starts with 'secure.', @nathanbennett.
