Got a phishing text at 2am from "my bank" and the callback number was one digit off from the real one
Almost typed my card number in before I noticed the number they gave me didn't match the one on the back of my actual card. Small thing, but it's the only reason I caught it. Does anyone else just hang up and call the number on the card instead of trusting the message?
That part about the callback number being one digit off is exactly how these scams work, they count on you not checking. I read a thing from the FTC that said banks never text you asking for your card number or ask you to call some random number back. Calling the number on the back of your card is the move every single time, no matter how real the text looks.
