Showerthought: I was using way too much heat protectant this whole time

So I went to a workshop last month in Columbus, and the stylist doing a demo said something like 'you only need a dime size for your whole head.' I had been dumping like a palm full on every section before blow drying. My hair started feeling super greasy by day 2 for like a year and I just thought it was my scalp. Nope, it was all that product getting baked in. Anyone else have a basic step you just assumed you knew but were doing totally backwards?

And this is just one of those things where we assume more product = more protection, but really we're just wasting money and weighing our hair down. It's like using too much laundry detergent thinking it'll get clothes cleaner when it just leaves residue everywhere. I feel like half of adult life is realizing you've been doing something the extra hard way for years when the simple version works better.

I totally get what you're saying about the laundry detergent thing, I actually read an article a while back that said the same thing. The writer was comparing hair products to dish soap and how you only need a tiny amount to get the job done. I remember it mentioned that a lot of heat protectants are basically oil and silicone based so they just sit on your hair if you use too much. That whole "more is better" idea is so hard to shake though, especially when you see influencers slathering stuff on.
