Unpopular opinion: you do not need to keep up with the bull float on small pours
Everybody on my crew swears you have to bull float a 10x12 slab the second the bleed water disappears, but I waited almost 40 minutes on a garage apron in Amarillo and the finish came out flatter than the ones we rush. Rushing it just pushes the cream around and you end up fighting the trowel later, especially in that dry Panhandle wind. I have poured maybe 300 slabs this size over 8 years and the ones I let sit a bit always come back cleaner. The old guys at my shop say I am slow, and maybe on big commercial work they are right. Anyone else notice small pours finish better when you just wait a bit longer?
