An old timer's comment about curing blankets got me thinking
I was pouring a slab for a garage in Columbus last Tuesday, and this retired finisher who stopped by said we baby our concrete too much, that he used to just wet burlap and hope for the best. He laughed about losing a whole pour in 1998 because a cold front moved in overnight and nobody covered it, and it hit me different because I've been relying on the same spray-on cure method for years without questioning it. Anyone else had an older guy make you doubt something you thought was standard practice?

Honestly, that old timer is kinda right to make you second-guess it. Spray-on cures are fine when things are perfect, but they can just burn off or wash away if the weather turns. Wet burlap might be old school, but it holds moisture way better than a chemical film in a sudden cold snap. Losing a whole slab to a freeze is a hard lesson, but his story proves that the basics still matter. Tbh, I think we overcomplicate things because the new stuff feels safer, but sometimes the old way just handles the real world better. Don't ditch the spray, but keep a tarp and some rags in the truck as backup.
