That one time a sysadmin told me to stop using compressed air on server fans
I was cleaning out a rack at a law firm downtown and this grizzled old IT guy walked over and said 'stop blowing those bearings out, you're just killing them faster.' He showed me how he uses a soft brush and vacuum instead, and I haven't touched a can of air near a fan since. Has anyone else had a repair habit someone called out that actually made sense?

Always thought air was fine but that brush trick makes total sense.

Not quite right about the bearings though. Compressed air doesn't actually blow bearings out unless you're holding the fan still and blasting it directly.
