Debate: Should we even touch power supplies on site anymore?
I was at a repair shop in Phoenix last month and saw a guy try to fix a blown PSU on a Dell Optiplex. He ended up zapping himself and the board. My old boss always said swap it out, don't mess with the internals, but another tech argued you can save money by repairing. Which side do you fall on for PSU work?

Honestly skip the recap on cheap PSUs, not worth your time or safety.

Yeah I saw that part about "saving money by repairing" and honestly that's a trap lol. On an old Optiplex that PSU is like thirty bucks used, not worth the risk of getting zapped or frying the whole board. I've seen too many guys try to recap a PSU and end up with a nice little fire hazard instead. Swapping it out is faster, safer, and you don't waste an hour troubleshooting something that could pop again next week. Just not worth it for a cheap PSU.
