Vent: Ran Cat6 to my dad's shop in Rockford to save him $90 a month, and the ISP tech ratted us out
My dad pays $110 a month for coax internet at his auto shop in Rockford because fiber stops two blocks short of his building. I ran about 140 feet of Cat6 from his office, over the radiators, to a neighbor's garage that already has fiber, and we split that neighbor's bill. Worked great for five months. Then a tech came out for an unrelated service call, poked around the cable path, and filed a report. They killed the neighbor's account and quoted my dad $6,400 for a fiber buildout on top of a new business plan. Here's the part that bugs me: nobody broke anything, nobody's speeds dropped, and the neighbor was happy with the split. I get that reselling is against the terms, but is there a legit way to share a commercial connection in a spot like this, like a wireless bridge with the neighbor's blessing, or do you just eat the buildout cost? Curious if anyone has pulled off a legal setup in a dead zone.
