The old dive school in Galveston looks totally different now

Drove past the place I got certified back in 2008 last weekend. The old building is now a seafood warehouse, concrete patches all over where we used to stage gear tanks. I remember paying $400 for that two week course and it felt like a fortune back then. Now they teach things on mockups with full VR rigs, which is wild compared to learning valve drills on a plywood frame. Saw a couple students hauling new Kirby Mogs into a trailer, looked way cleaner than the beat up hats we had. Anyone else been back to their old training spot and felt like a relic?

Man, I gotta disagree a little. Sure, the VR stuff is cool and all, but that beat up plywood frame taught me more than any fancy simulator could. You had to actually feel the gear, mess up the valve drill a few times, and fix it with a real tank on your back. Plus, $400 in 2008 was a lot, but look what you got. A whole two weeks of hands on, dirty, salty water training. Those kids hauling brand new Mogs will never know the joy of duct taping a fin strap together before a dive. Different doesn't always mean better, you know?
