Why does nobody talk about how reading comics at a shop is different than reading at home?

I used to think I was a real comic fan because I bought trades online and binged them on my couch. Took maybe 20 minutes each. Thought I got everything out of them. Then last month I went to a shop in Austin for a signing and sat down with a single issue I already owned. Reading it there, next to other people flipping pages, I caught stuff I'd missed for years. Panel layouts. Lettering choices. The pacing. I wasn't rushing to the next page. And I realized I'd been treating comics like content instead of something you actually sit with. Has anyone else had that moment where the same story hits harder in a shop than it ever did in your living room?

Was it the shop itself or just the slower pace that did it for you? Cause I've had that same moment sitting in a barber shop reading a beat up old issue while waiting, and I think it was the fact that I had nowhere else to be. Did you try going back to the same issue at home after that, or does it still feel flat there?
