I grew up trading comics in person, but my nephew thinks apps are the future

Back then, finding a rare comic meant hunting through garage sales and swap meets. You'd bond with other fans over the hunt. These days, you can get any issue in seconds online, but it feels less special. Do you think comic fandom has improved or gotten worse with technology?

Remember trying to use those massive monthly price guides to haggle? I was so bad at it, I once traded a mid-grade X-Men #94 for a stack of Archie digests because the guy convinced me it was a fair deal. The hunt was fun, but let's be real, I would have gone bankrupt without eBay. Now I can actually complete a storyline without driving three states over. It's different, but my wallet prefers it this way.

Man, it's just comics at the end of the day lol. People act like hunting through dusty boxes was some epic quest, but half the time you just found mildew and overpriced junk. Yeah, apps made it easy, so now we actually read stories instead of just hunting for them. It's not worse, it's just not the same kind of hobby. Getting worked up over how someone else gets their funny books is kinda wild.

Is it really that wild to miss the hunt though? I mean, matthew_owens9 is right that it's easier now, but finding that one comic in a random box felt like winning. The apps just hand it to you, so the story ends when you buy it, not when you find it.
