Just realized the $40 used textbook beats my $180 new one in every way that matters
Honestly I bought new textbooks for my first two semesters at Michigan State and dropped around $600 total, and last month I finally tried the used copies from the campus bookstore instead. The used one for my stats class was $40 and it already had good notes in the margins from some kid who took it in 2019. Turns out the pages are the same and I actually read the highlighted parts more since someone already marked what matters. Why did I waste two semesters buying shrink wrapped books I opened like four times?
The "someone already marked what matters" part is so real, and it makes me think about how people pay full price for stuff they never really use, like gyms and streaming plans. We seem to trust that new costs more so it must be better, when the notes in a beat up book prove that's not true.
