Found out my school's 4 year grad rate is 43 percent and nobody brings it up at tours
I was poking around the federal College Scorecard site last week for a class project and pulled up my own school's page out of curiosity, and the 6 year grad rate was sitting right there at 43 percent. Our tour guides wave at the fancy new rec center and never mention that more than half the people who start here don't finish. I ran the numbers for three other state schools within 200 miles and they were all sitting between 62 and 71 percent, so it's not like this is just how college works now. Has anyone else actually looked up their own school on that site, and did the number match what you expected?
Checked mine after reading this and yeah, 47 percent. I always assumed the number was way higher because everyone talks about how good the school is. I figured the people who dropped out were just a few kids who partied too hard or switched to community college, not half the class. Seeing it in black and white made me realize the tours are basically a sales pitch. They show you the lazy river and the smoothie bar because that stuff sells, not because it tells you anything real. Now I want to know where all those people go and why nobody at orientation ever said a word about it.
